6 Podcast Logo Design Tips

A podcast isn’t just about your most-downloaded episode. It’s an important part of your brand, with the logo serving as its symbol. Logo design is an art and a science; it should be instantly recognizable, and it should encompass your podcast’s vibe (more on that below).

To ensure your podcast’s logo does both, we’ve gathered some podcast logo design tips to help guide you.

Integrate your current brand

If your podcast is part of your organization’s overall brand (rather than a separate brand), be sure to incorporate your organization’s brand colors, fonts, and other design elements in the logo. That design continuity will remind listeners of the bigger brand and provide a more refined and professional look.

If your podcast is an entirely new brand that is separate from the organization’s, you’ll have to back up and start at the beginning. First up:

Decide on your brand’s vibe

Your brand’s vibe is how people feel about it. How do you want people to feel when they see a new podcast episode has been released? How do you want them to feel while listening to an episode? Jot down a few words to describe these feelings.

Colors can do a lot to evoke those feelings, so …

Keep the psychology of colors in mind

Colors have a significant psychological impact and can evoke different emotions. Because a logo helps set the brand vibe, the colors you choose should reflect what your podcast is all about.

Here’s a rundown of what difference colors represent:

Red = danger/love

Black = mystery/death

Pink = calmness/optimism

Purple = royal/magical

Blue = trust/detached

Green = money/growth

Yellow = energy/caution

Orange = joyful/creative

Is your podcast about personal finance? Go for a green logo. Is your podcast mystery-related? Use dark, moody colors. Is your podcast centered around parenting? Bright, cheery colors fit the bill.

Remember that the right icons speak volumes

An icon is a symbol that immediately communicates what your podcast is about. An airplane symbolizes travel, a cupcake symbolizes baked goods, a dog’s silhouette symbolizes a dog-related business (perhaps grooming or obedience training).

The key is ensuring your icon is recognizable. If it’s too small or detailed, people won’t know what they’re looking at.

Make sure the logo design is scalable

Your logo will look good on your website and business card – but what about a banner or billboard? Hey – you never know how big your podcast will get!

Follow these basic graphic design rules

With logo design, more is not better. Don’t use more than three colors and two fonts in your logo, or it could look cluttered.

Your logo will appear in many different places – not just on a nice clean white background. You may be asked to provide a logo in black and white, so make sure it looks fantastic without those carefully selected brand colors.

Developing your podcast’s brand can be a fun – and overwhelming. If you’re stuck on a podcast logo, we are happy to weigh in (really!).
